Hotels for toilets who fear infecting their families

The Govern is looking for hotels so that health personnel who want to avoid the risk of contagion to their relatives have a place to stay. For now, arrangements are made and visits to establishments that have been declared as essential services in the additional provisions of the Royal Decree . The staff that cares for the sick is one of the groups that have been most affected by infections. According to the data provided this Tuesday by the Ministry of Health there are already 175 toilets that have tested positive for coronavirus in the different tests and 389 remain on active surveillancein case they have symptoms of the disease. This figure means that of every hundred confirmed positive cases in the Balearic Islands, 18 are from medical personnel.

The transfer of patients from the Son Llàtzer hospital to the Meliá Palma Bay medicalized hotel began yesterday . They are the first positive cases occupying the 35 rooms and all of them are mildly ill or asymptomatic. It will also move to patients who do not have an address or those who cannot carry out an asylum in their habitual residence without putting vulnerable people at risk. In addition to this transfer they have also begun work to become a hospital the exhibition hall of the Palacio de Congresos . This facility has 6,000 square metersand it is being adapted to be able to attend to the most serious patients in anticipation that the evolution of cases exceeds the capacities of the Balearic hospitals, in a similar way to the installation carried out in Madrid at Ifema .

In this way, the mildest patients would be accommodated in the hotel and the medical staff could handle these cases together with those of the field hospital. The hotel facilities have already been converted into a health center last week and have a maximum capacity of 250 beds on eight different floors.

Transfers will continue progressively in the coming days according to the needs of each of the hospital centers. The IB-Salut prepares the conversion of two other hotels in Mallorca to be able to welcome the sick.
